At Presence & Co., we’re more than just a team – we’re a family. And on Saturday, we had the privilege of welcoming someone very important into our ranks. Will, the 23-year-old stepson of our very own Rob Laing, came in for the day to shadow his stepdad and experience firsthand what life as tradesperson is all about.
Will, who has Down Syndrome, is incredibly proud of Rob and wanted to see him in action, working hard and making a difference. So, early on Saturday morning, while the rest of the world was enjoying a weekend lie-in, Will was raring to go, ready to step into the boots of a tradesman.
A Day of Hard Work & Laughter
With just the two of them in for the day, Rob and Will got stuck into various tasks. Will had a go at painting, decorating, hoovering, and clearing up—doing his bit to keep everything looking sharp. He even got to test out Rob’s tools (under careful supervision, of course!) and helped swap materials from the old van to the new one. He was hands-on, focused, and, most importantly, having a brilliant time.
It wasn’t just about the work, though. It was about spending time with Rob, understanding what he does day in and day out, and feeling a part of something bigger. And from what we hear, Will might have been just as excited for the celebratory pint on the way home as he was for the day itself!
This wasn’t just a one-time experience for Will. He loved every minute of it and is already keen to come back and work with Rob again. While he struggles with reading and writing, that doesn’t stop his enthusiasm, and it certainly doesn’t dampen his determination to be involved in the life of a trades.
At Presence & Co., we take pride in being an inclusive and welcoming place, not just for our team but for their families too. Rob is a valued member of our team, and seeing how much Will looks up to him was a powerful reminder of the impact our work has—not just on our clients but on those closest to us.
We were honoured to have Will join us for the day, and we can’t wait to have him back. Who knows? We might just have a future Presence & Co. tradie in the making!
