Big News at Presence & Co. – Alex Mills Takes the Lead!

Exciting things are happening at Presence & Co., and we’ve got some brilliant news to share! Our very own Alex Mills has officially stepped up as Head of Sales & Lettings, taking over from Sophie Meyer as she heads off on maternity leave.

For those who know Alex, this won’t come as a shock – he’s been a driving force in the team, helping buyers, sellers, landlords, and tenants navigate the world of property with confidence (and charm, of course). But what does this new role mean for him? And what’s next for Sales & Lettings at Presence & Co.?

We sat down with Alex for a quick-fire Q&A to find out!

Meet the New Head of Sales & Lettings – Q&A with Alex Mills

Let’s start at the beginning! What first sparked your interest in property?

“It all started when my parents bought a property in London, and I went along on the viewings with them. I was hooked from there! Later, I started working for Foxtons after chatting with the viewing agent – I guess you could say I got sold on the industry myself!”

What’s been your most memorable moment at Presence & Co. so far?

“There have been so many! But if I had to pick one, it’s got to be the 12 Days of Christmas campaign. It really helped expand our presence in the Tunbridge Wells community (pun intended) and made a mark on the local estate agency scene. Plus, it brought together all the different departments—it was a great example of what Presence & Co. is all about.”

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a Sales & Lettings Negotiator that you’ll be taking into this new role?

“Attention to detail. In this role, it’s no longer just about my sales—I have to think about my team and the whole department. It’s a shift in mindset, from focusing on individual sales to ensuring the success of everyone around me.”

Stepping into this position is a big moment! How did it feel when you got the call up?

“At first, I was flattered and really hopeful. Then, once I knew it was happening, I got very excited. Getting the opportunity was huge, and I’m so grateful for the belief the team has in me. It was daunting at first – I was still fairly new when we found out Sophie was expecting – but sometimes, you’ve just got to take the jump! Now, I’m fully embracing the challenge and bringing my experience into a leadership role.”

Sales & Lettings is a fast-moving world—what’s your secret to staying ahead of the game?

“Preparation is key. It’s about having a solid strategy, trusting the team, and making sure we’re always thinking ahead. We have brainstorming sessions to stay sharp, and I set my own high standards. Even for a viewing, that first phone call is where it all starts – you’ve got to gather all the info and be one step ahead at all times.”

What’s the one thing you’d love to achieve during your time in this role?

“Just one thing?! That’s tough… but if I had to choose, my main goal for this year is to bring in lots of new business. I want to help build the foundations for the department and the company, both internally and externally. My aim is to strengthen our presence and reputation, so when people think about Sales & Lettings, they think of Presence & Co. first.”

What makes Presence & Co. different from other estate agencies?

“We may be independent, but we’ve got big capabilities. What sets us apart is our in-house team – we cover everything from residential sales to estate management and maintenance with our in-house team of 30 trades. Most estate agents don’t have that full 360-degree service. Plus, the team here is different – young, ambitious, and hungry to succeed.”

Every negotiator has a ‘wildest property story’ – come on, tell us yours!

“I was working in Holland Park, showing an applicant around a property. I finished the viewing, turned off all the lights, and suddenly heard someone banging on the door. Turns out, someone was trying to break in while I was still inside! I had to call the police while they were checking all the windows – it was a bit of a surreal moment, to say the least!”

Alright, time for some fun ones! What’s your guilty pleasure when it comes to property TV shows?

“I’m actually not a big fan of property shows, ironically! But if I had to pick, I’d say Owning Manhattan or Selling London—I know Daniel Daggers, so I keep an eye on what he’s up to!”

Coffee-fuelled negotiations or tea-powered decision-making?

“Coffee. Flat white, always.”

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever seen in a property?

“A house that had a car coming out of the wall, like something straight out of a movie set. It was mad!”

If you had to live in one of the properties you’ve marketed recently, which one would it be?

“Morano, in Vauxhall—the views are stunning.”
