Meet the Team: Aaron Hine – Electrician at Presence & Co.

Last week, we introduced you to Rob Laming, our Maintenance Supervisor South, and now, as promised, we’re excited to give you more insight into the fantastic team he works with every day. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on one of the stars of our electrical team, Aaron Hine.

Aaron joined us in December 2023 as an electrician, and in just under a year, he’s made a lasting mark on the company. From residential projects to large commercial office fit-outs across the country, Aaron’s skill, dedication, and attention to detail have made him an invaluable part of the team. But that’s not all – Aaron is also a mentor to apprentice Monty McDonald, who recently earned top marks in his class, thanks in no small part to Aaron’s guidance.

Aaron brings a spark of knowledge and passion to everything he does, and we want you to get to know him a little better. Whether he’s helping with a project at your home or tackling larger commercial work, Aaron is someone you can trust to deliver the highest standards of quality and care.

Here’s what we learned when we sat down with him.

What made you interested in becoming an electrician, and how did your career develop?

“Like most people, I left school without a clear career path. My older brother, who was always a bit smarter than me, started training to become an electrician but gave it up just before finishing. That’s when I decided to prove to myself and my family that I could do it – and I did.”

What’s the most complex electrical job you’ve tackled?

“The most complex job I’ve worked on was running 175 metres of 150mm four-core armoured cable. It was a high-pressure job because the cable was expensive, and we were up against the clock, so everything had to be absolutely perfect.”

Any recent projects at Presence & Co. that stand out to you?

“The Derby project really stands out. A lot of time and effort went into the build from me and the northern team. It was a real team effort, and we’re all proud of the standard we achieved.”

You mentor Monty – how has it been working with him and helping him grow as an apprentice?

“It’s been great working with Monty. He’s eager to take on anything I throw his way and is such a quick learner. His mindset is spot-on, and he’s constantly progressing. He’s on track to becoming a fantastic electrician.”

What’s one thing about your trade that people might not realise?

“Most people don’t realise how much paperwork is involved in being an electrician. Whether the job is big or small, there’s always certificates and forms to fill out – it’s a key part of the job that can’t be overlooked.”

Do you have any memorable moments or funny stories from working on-site?

“The most memorable moment was at a site where we found a double socket that had been used as a safe by the previous homeowner. We got the go-ahead from the new homeowner to crack it open, and inside were a pair of earrings. The current homeowner cashed them in – they were worth £8,000! It just goes to show, you never know what surprises you might find in this line of work.”

Aaron’s mix of expertise and down-to-earth approachable nature makes him a real asset to our team. Whether he’s wiring a home or working on a major commercial project, he’s always up for a challenge and committed to delivering the best possible results. He’s not just an expert in his field; he’s someone who’s always willing to share his knowledge and help others grow, as Monty can attest.

Next week, we’ll be introducing you to Monty McDonald himself – a rising star in the electrical world, thanks to Aaron’s mentorship. Stay tuned to learn more about the next generation of electricians at Presence & Co.!
